Forward Assist Assembly for your AR15.
What is a Forward Assist on an AR-15?
Even though most AR-15 rifles come standard with a forward assist, many new owners are unfamiliar with what it is or does.
The history of the forward assist (also referred to as bold assist) dates back to the first half of the 20th century. When the U.S. military adopted assault rifles for use in warfare, they wanted a way to close the bolt quickly if the soldier was unable to chamber the round. The solution? A pawl located near the bolt closure that pushes the bolt carrier forward when pressed, forcing the round into the chamber.
